| What is SGT? The Redcat Motors SGT (Selective Gear Transmission) is a semi automatic transmission with dual mode gear selection option that permits parents or guardians to select how they want the child to ride. Most youth ATV's are manufactured with a single speed transmission, meaning that single speed atv's are set to one gear only. This limits the minimum or maximum power the drive-train can produce. A single speed transmission limits the usability of the atv by not producing ample torque in some situations. While a single speed transmission may be a good choice for the beginner on flat terrain, Redcat has created the SGT models as another option. With SGT you have 4 options to match the gear selection to the terrain and riders enjoyment and two modes to choose from. Redcat ships all SGT models to dealers with both the hand shifter and foot shifter along with an extra foot board to match the mode. This allows the customer to select the right gear based on the child's abilities. In image 1, the hand shifter is installed and allows for the adult to select the gear based on terrain or users abilities. The hand shifter is out of reach of the rider. This results in an ATV that acts exactly like a single speed automatic except now the adult can select the gear to match the terrain. You cannot do this with a single gear ATV. In image 2, the heal-toe shifter is installed, and gives the rider the ability to shift on the fly all 4 gears and results in a true semi automatic ATV. |
